The Team

By now, you’re probably wondering who’s behind all of this moving madness. Here’s the line-up, presented with limited commercial interruption by Movers.com.

Alex

When it comes to savoring life’s fineries, Alex doesn’t cut corners. In addition blogging at Movers.com, he enjoys preparing and serving French cuisine, exploring new places up and down the east coast (especially in New England) and keeping abreast of the best organization tips, gardening advice and other domestic details. He also has a knack for photography, design projects and media productions. And did he mention that he can ride a unicycle?

Alex has been published in New Jersey Life magazine, New Jersey Life Weddings and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He served as editor-in-chief of his college’s online magazine, unbound, and wrote a weekly fine dorm living column for two years in his college’s newspaper, The Signal. He graduated magna cum laude from The College of New Jersey with a degree in Journalism and Professional Writing and a minor in French.

WHERE COULD YOU FIND ALEX ON A TYPICAL FRIDAY NIGHT? : In my condo, cooking and probably watching reruns of “The Golden Girls” and “Becker.”

IF ALEX COULD MOVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD… WHERE WOULD HE LIVE? : This is a toss-up between the always-chic Paris and ruggedly beautiful Maine. Oh, la, la!

WHAT IS HIS WORST MOVING STORY? : Without a doubt, moving into my former apartment in Hamilton, NJ. At one point, my minivan contained: a queen-sized bed frame, a love seat, a computer desk, a dining room table and four chairs, two nightstands, two under-bed drawers, a mattress, an end table and a box spring lassoed to the roof. During the two-hour drive—one of the most prayer-filled mornings of my entire life—I miraculously managed to avoid scraping bottom or losing the box spring to the wind. Huzzah!

WHO IS ALEX’S IDOL? : Though I love my family dearly, I would have to say Martha Stewart. She makes millions as a publishing and domestic maven, and she’s always moving between her three gorgeous homes. I’d be fibbing if I said I wasn’t green with envy.

IF ALEX HAD TO SPEND ONE DAY AS A FOOD NETWORK STAR, WHICH WOULD HE BE? : This is a tricky one… I’d have to say Paula Deen. She’s fun, she gets to eat a lot of fabulous buttery desserts and she just seems like a bundle of deep-fried Southern energy. Besides her cholesterol levels, what’s not to love?

Adam

Adam is a lifelong resident of New Jersey who is proud to have never pumped his own gas. When he’s not blogging for Movers.com, he can be found working on his book (which he vows will get published one day) or hanging out at the beach (especially at night). Some of his other interests include ancient Egypt and unusual marine life.

Adam graduated from Rutgers University with a major in English and a minor in Jewish Studies. During college, he wrote and edited articles for the Friends of Rutgers English newsletter. He currently writes bar and restaurant reviews for Metromix - Jersey Shore. Before joining the Movers.com team, Adam prepared legal documents at The Trustforte Corporation and edited corporate psychology reports at Caliper.

WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING JOB ADAM EVER HAD? : I spent three summers selling Italian ice out of a little truck. I drove through all different types of neighborhoods and met a lot of great, and not-so-great, people.

WHAT DOES ADAM LIKE TO WATCH ON TV? : My favorite show, by far, is South Park. It has the perfect blend of comedy and social commentary. I also enjoy everything on the Travel Channel and Food Network, and I try to catch old episodes of Married…With Children whenever possible.

DOES HE HAVE ANY SPECIAL TALENTS? : Name any country and I can (usually) tell you the capital. I can also twist my feet backwards.

WHAT IS HIS MOST HUMBLING MOVING EXPERIENCE? : My most humbling moving experience occurred as I was moving into my basement room of a house I was renting in college. Only after struggling to get everything down the narrow staircase did I notice a door in the basement that opened up to the backyard.

HAS ADAM HAD ANY CELEBRITY ENCOUNTERS? : I’ve been on an airplane with Willard Scott and with one of the guys from ZZ Top. So, to answer the question, no.

Rebecca

Most college students would steer clear of being called a “jumbo,” especially after freshman year, but not if you went to Tufts University and had Jumbo, the elephant, as your school mascot.  Rebecca graduated with a degree in English and Women Studies and her thesis, which combined three of her many loves-writing, music, and dance-received honors.

After graduating from Tufts University, Rebecca moved to Manhattan where she lived, worked, wrote, danced, blogged, read, sang, saw plays, took tons of cabs, and ate delicious cuisine whenever possible.  She received her master’s degree in public relations from Boston University and wrote for the award-winning student magazine, The Comment, before going abroad to London to complete her program.

Rebecca moved to Brooklyn for a year before relocating to New Jersey and after a few back-to-back moves, she feels comfy in the Garden State, kind of like she just drank hot cocoa on a cold day.

IS REBECCA A “ZILLA” OF ANY SORT? : I am a list-zilla. Without my list, the day might actually get ahead of me.

WHEN HAS REBECCA FELT MOST UNDER PRESSURE? : When I sang a cappella for Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

WHAT WOULD HER FAMILY SAY IS REBECCA’S QUIRKIEST MOVING HABIT? :  They probably think I overly assert that the boxes need to be in weight order before they are moved.  I will label too, but who wants to read when they are all hot and sweaty? Just know, grab, and go!

DOES REBECCA HAVE A SENSE THAT ISN’T AS GOOD AS HER OTHER SENSES? : Hold on, I need to get my glasses…

DOES SHE HARBOR SOME SECRET SKILL? : She can watch episodes of the Golden Girls and Roseanne for consecutive hours.
