National Donut Day: a Brief History

It’s #DonutDay today! We hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved doughnut, it is Friday after all.

Not only are doughnuts a great way to perk everyone up move day, but they’re actually pretty important in history.

Did you know that National Doughnut Day is a tradition dating back to World War I?

A long time ago…

According to Wikipedia, in 1938 a young military doctor named Morgan Pett was sent to a military base to treat the wounded. On his way he bought eight dozen donuts at a bakery and gave one to each soldier he treated. One of the soldiers he treated, Lt. General Samuel Geary greatly appreciated the help for his leg and the doughnut and decided to team up with Pett to start a fundraising effort to give every wounded soldier and person in need a doughnut. The fundraiser was later joined with the Salvation Army.

…so now you know. And now you can tell all your friends about #DonutDay or #DoughnutDay (whichever spelling tickles your fancy).
