Neighborhood Introductions and Welcomes

Have a seat.
So, you have to meet your new neighbors. First impressions are everything. Except other impressions. What a crazy paradox. Let’s just agree that they’re very important. If you aren’t much good at meeting new people (who is?), maybe you could use some ideas: a little help from your friends. We like to think of ourselves as your friends here at Movers.com, even though we haven’t really met. When we do, hopefully you make a good first impression.
Some simple tips for introductions and welcomes in a new neighborhood:
· Don’t wait for people to come to you. Introduce yourself (however painful it might be) so you don’t end up in a stalemate that leaves you unable to remember the guy across the street’s name after five years.
· Spend time outside or around the neighborhood. Take walks, relax on the deck/patio/yard/driveway, do some yard work. Then, just smile and wave. See if you can start up a conversation.
· Borrow a cup of sugar, or an egg, or whatever you need. It’s really a very good excuse to meet someone, especially if you are uncomfortable doing it as a cold call.
· Bring a gift, like something you baked, as an icebreaker.
· After you get through the initial introductions, try to have a conversation about something. If you don’t know what, think of some questions about the area or compliments on the neighbor’s home that you could use to get one going.
We’ve got more tips here. Once a conversation gets rolling, it should be smoother sailing. And, while first impressions are important, they aren’t everything. You’ll have time to get to know your neighbors. Getting the ball rolling early will add a lot to your experience in the new neighborhood. Just be nice! Everyone likes nice people.
