Insurance and Security Options for Auto Transport

Let's hope this car's owner had some insurance!
When you have to ship your vehicle to another part of the country, whether during a move or for a number of other reasons, you want it to arrive at its destination damage-free. Though you’ll have no control of your vehicle while it is being shipped, you can protect yourself against any potential damage buy getting insurance.
There are three main options for insuring your vehicle during transport. They include coverage by the company handling the move, coverage from your current auto insurance provider, and coverage from an independent insurer.
• All auto shippers are required by law to have some level of insurance to protect your vehicle, though the level of service differs from one company to another. Make sure you know in advance what coverage your auto shipper will provide and at what prices.
• Find out if your current auto insurance provider will have your vehicle covered during shipment. If that’s the case, and the coverage is better than what the shipper offers, then go with that.
• Your third option is to seek short-term coverage from an independent insurance company. You can use this as your sole insurance during the transportation or as a way to be covered for what the shipper or your regular insurance company won’t cover. For instance, if your auto shipper doesn’t cover water damage, you could purchase such coverage from an independent company.
While professional auto shippers will take every precaution, there is always the chance that something can go wrong. It is in your best interest to have your vehicle properly insured, through any of the measures listed above. To read more about insuring your auto during transport, check out this Movers.com guide.
