Top Ten Reasons to Move in Autumn

You won't get scenery like this during your winter, spring, or summer move!
The summer is by far the busiest time of year for moving. From families with young children who want to be moved before the new school year start, to college students heading back to the dorms, and to people who use their summer vacation time to devote to the move, there are plenty of people on the move each summer. While the reasons for moving in the summer are perfectly understood, it just might be a good idea to put the move off for a couple months and relocate during autumn. Here are just ten of the benefits for moving this time of year.
1. Two-for-one parties - Since Halloween and Thanksgiving occur in the autumn, you can host a party for one of these holidays and have it double as a housewarming party. As an added bonus, you can make your party a potluck affair. Since you will have just moved in, you’ll have a perfect excuse for asking your guests to each bring a dish, saving you the trouble of cooking.
2. Less expensive - Movers usually charge more during the summer, which is their busiest season. Avoid these higher prices by moving in the fall, when the cost for using professional movers will be a little lower.
3. Better service - While your move can be more affordable in the fall, you might also get better service. As moving companies are so busy throughout the summer, they may potentially rush to get things done. At the same time, they could also be overworked, making them perform the moves more slowly and with less focus. In the fall, their workload will be lighter, which could result in better work.
4. More rental trucks - Many companies that rent out moving vans and trucks are often booked solid by the time August rolls around, due to the many parents using them to drive their kids back to college. Once the fall begins, though, these all-important moving tools will be more readily available.
5. Lower gas prices - It is well known that gas prices are higher in the summer than the rest of the year. Whether you are renting a now-plentiful moving truck or have to drive a long distance to get to your new home, you can take advantage of the lower gas prices available in the autumn.
6. Cooler temperatures - If you are performing a self-move, you’ll definitely appreciate the cooler weather that autumn brings in, compared with the hot, sticky summer weather.
7. Warmer temperatures - Moving in the fall also has plenty of benefits over moving in the winter. Since you have to make plenty of trips between the truck and your new home, you probably won’t want to do this in cold weather. By moving before winter sets in, you can avoid the chance of having an icy or snowy moving day, which can only complicate things.
8. Home for the holidays - Another benefit of moving in the fall is that you will be settled into your new home well before the winter holiday season. No one wants to be between homes for the holidays, or have to worry about packing up your holiday decorations right before a move. Also, what better way to start the new year than to celebrate in your new home?
9. Kids at school - If you move in the fall, it may be easier for your kids to get adjusted to a new school. Since it will still be the beginning of the school year, it might be better for your children to start a new situation now, than have to uproot in the middle of the year.
10. A nice drive - Though this shouldn’t be the main reason for your move, by moving in the fall, you can enjoy the sight of the leaves changing. This can be an especially nice bonus if you have to drive a long distance to get to your new home.
