Have you ever thought about moving to Scandinavia?  While it isn’t on most people’s lists of the top places they’d like to relocate to, the five counties that make up the region, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, are wonderful places to live in.

If you plan on moving to one of these countries, you can enjoy beautiful scenery, a high standard of living, and some of the friendliest (and arguably best looking) people on the planet.  Despite the benefits, you will have to put up with some cold temperatures and long, dark winters.  On the other hand, Scandinavia has abundant hours of sunlight in the summer, giving the region the nickname, Land of the Midnight Sun.  If you do decide to live in Scandinavia, you might want to try moving to one of these cities.

1.    Oslo, Norway - If you decide to move to Oslo, getting all of your belongings there shouldn’t be a problem; the capital and largest city in Norway is home to some of the world’s biggest shipping companies.  The name Oslo is derived from Old Norse and is translated as “meadow of the gods,” which is fitting for this beautiful city.

2.    Billund, Denmark - This Danish city, which lies right in the middle of the country, is covered with trees, bushes, and flowers.  What really makes Billund stand out is that it is the headquarters of the Lego Group.  If you move to this city, you will see giant legos on the streets.  You will also be close to the original Legoland, which has displayed sculptures made of the city’s main export since it was first built in 1968.

3.    Helsinki, Finland - Though Finland’s capital only has about half a million people, it is by far the largest city in the nation.  Compared to other European capitals, Helsinki has one of the lowest population densities, so there will be plenty of room for new immigrants.  It also has very clean tap water, which is bottled and sold to other countries.  Many international companies make Helsinki their home, so there will be plenty of other expatriates to meet when you move there.

4.    Stockholm, Sweden - Stockholm, which was founded in the 13th century, is the capital and largest city in Sweden.  In fact, about one-fifth of the country’s population resides in the city.  Stockholm is one of Scandinavia’s most tourist-friendly cities and is regularly rated as one of the best cities in the world to live in.

5.    Lillehammer, Norway - Any ski fanatics would be happy to live in this small city.  It was the site of the 1994 Winter Olympics and is still a center for winter sporting events.  In addition to a wealth of skiing locations, Lillehammer has plenty of historical sites, such as ancient rock carvings and a church built in 1150.
