Moving in the rain

Here comes the rain again...
No matter how you slice it, moving is never a simple process. It doesn’t have to be painful, but when you’re in a situation balancing schedules, economics, fragile items, and major life changes, things are bound to get tricky.
There is at least one thing that will always be out of your control: the weather. Ironically, sometimes it rains on your wedding day. It’s equally likely to downpour on the day that you’re moving. Here are a few tips and suggestions for moving in the rain that’ll keep your movers, belongings, and new home safe and squeaky clean.
In the week leading up to your move, keep a keen eye on trained on the weather forecast. If you see indications of a stormy day–including large areas of rain creeping into the area, bad weather forecasts on the days before and after your move, or seasonal precipitation issues, be prepared for the worst. Even if the weather seems to be looking sunny, keep in mind that Mother Nature rarely sticks to a set plan. If you are over-prepared, you should be alright!
If you’re moving in the rain, you’ll need to keep your fabric-covered and untreated furniture as waterproof as possible. Purchase inexpensive plastic slipcovers or tarps to wrap around each item. If not using tight-fitting slipcovers, wait to wrap each item until your movers have already properly packed them for the move. The plastic is intended to keep moisture off both the furniture and the packing supplies to ensure a clean, dry unloading process. (next page)
