A Moving Story

The empty truck. It wasn't empty for long...
A while back, I wrote about the not-so-great experience I had helping my girlfriend move into her new apartment. Well, two weekends ago, Jennifer once again was on the move. I’m happy to say this move was a lot smoother and didn’t have any of the problems we faced the last time. The entire process took a lot shorter than expected. We had assembled a great team to help with the move, and everyone involved carried their weight (and a lot of boxes).
This time, Jen was moving into a new apartment in her current complex. However, the move involved a lot more than just driving around the corner to the new place. As she was moving into the apartment with her sister, Kelly, we had to first go to Jen’s parents’ house to get all of her sister’s things. By the time we arrived, Kelly was backing the rented moving van into the driveway. We soon started loading up all of her stuff into the truck.

Is the truck half full or half empty?
The load up went by surprising quickly, as we had plenty of help. Since my girlfriend has a whole bunch of siblings (she is one of six kids) there were a lot of extra hands. Before anyone knew it, we had all of Kelly’s things, and a lot of things their parents wanted to get rid of, onto the truck. Once this phase of the move was finished, we got ready for the next part of the move, which I was completely dreading - a side trip to IKEA.
Though I have nothing against IKEA as a company, my experiences in their stores have been less than ideal. Each time I’ve been there, it was incredibly crowded and noisy. However, Jen and Kelly needed a couch, and, as long as they had a truck, they figured it made sense to get it that day. Fortunately, they had previously gone to the store, so they knew exactly what they wanted and wear to find it. I was especially happy to see that the couch was already loaded onto a cart, which made checking out that much easier. Before I knew it, the couch was paid for and ready to be lifted into the truck. I still can’t believe that we were in and out of IKEA with a brand new couch in less than ten minutes. (next page)

Moving stories are always interesting to listen. There are always problems with storage, so it might become funny.
