Top Ten List: Best Beaches in the World
When planning a vacation, many people choose to go somewhere close to a beach. With all of the world’s islands and coastlines, there are a multitude of options. Picking ten beaches to put on this list was hard enough. I’m sure deciding on just one beach to vacation at–or relocate to–is even more challenging.
Though there are plenty of lists of the top ten beaches floating around the internet, I tried to make this one a little different. Of course, there are some places that had to be mentioned (like any beach in Hawaii). At the same time, I included some places that aren’t as obvious. While the subject of the best beaches in the world is certainly up for debate, here is my list:
1. Paradise Beach in Mykonos, Greece - The island of Mykonos is famous for its bars and clubs; visitors can party well into the early morning. While the nightlife is certainly a main attraction, Paradise Beach is the island’s hotspot during the day. With plenty of beach bars and a clothing-optional policy, it has definitely earned its reputation as a party beach. Though it’s not for everyone, Paradise Beach is perfect for anyone looking for nonstop fun.
2. Ipanema Beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil - Perhaps one of Mykonos’s closest competitors for the young,

adventurous crowd is Ipanema. With a party atmosphere and an anything-goes attitude, this beach attracts a wide variety of tourists and locals and probably even a local girl or two. Ipanema also has one of the most interesting landscapes. The beach is framed by Rio’s high-rise buildings, along with jungle-covered mountains in the background.
3. Mission Beach in San Diego, California - Visitors to Mission Beach can expect a fun time, without all of the excesses and inhibitions of the previous two beaches. You can take part in the typical California beach activities, like rollerblading and playing beach volleyball. Mission beach also allows visitors to build their own bonfires, something you can’t experience on most beaches.
4. China Beach in Danang, Vietnam - While Phucket, Thailand is often known thought of as the best beach in Southeast Asia, Vietnam’s China Beach may soon take that title. Though it has some unpleasant history (the area once served as base camp for U.S forces), the beach is now a relaxing destination offering plenty of spas and luxury hotels. The beach itself provides over 20 miles of white sand and striking views.
5. Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii - Hawaiian for “crashing waves,” the appropriately named Poipu provides a nice alternative to the more famous, and more crowded, Waikiki Beach. Poipu, which is on Hawaii’s least developed major island, offers plenty of chances to get close to nature. Visitors can go snorkeling around the beach’s reefs and may even encounter a seal or sea turtle. For those who are less adventurous, you can always relax on the sand and enjoy looking at the clear blue water. (next page)
