Clean those crusty faucets the eco-friendly way

Vinegar: not just for salads any more!
Gomestic has a really great post about cleaning faucets and showerheads using an eco-friendly vinegar solution. I’ve used the tactic before, especially when I’ve moved into a new home or apartment. Since I’ve lived in a lot of places with hard water, it’s been an essential step toward making sure the showers and sinks work properly.
I do have two quick additions to the post (though they’re not necessarily related to moving). First, if you have a kettle that suffers from hard water deposits, fill it with a small amount of vinegar and heat it gently on the stove. Keep your oven fan going unless you’d like your home to reek of vinegar for several hours! Then, allow the vinegar to cool before pouring it down the drain. Your kettle will shine with a mineral-free luster after the treatment!
Secondly, if your coffee has been tasting funny or if the pot just doesn’t seem to be working the way it should, try rinsing a vinegar cycle through. Fill the reservoir with distilled white vinegar and allow it to run (outdoors if possible). Run a second time with a water rinse. This will break down the mineral and coffee dreg deposits in the machine leaving you with a tasty, pristine cup of joe.
How do you use vinegar around the house when you’re moving?
